Client: Infosys, Edge verve
Company: Pink Lemonade Creative Ad. Agency
Team: 2 UX Designers, one UI Designer
Duration: 2 months
My Role: Conducting user research by conducting contextual enquiry with 5 participants and documenting the same. Persona was defined and accordingly the task flows were drawn based on the scenario. Helping the other designer with low-fidelity wireframes and UI designers with visual mockups.
Problem Statement
The mission is to create an efficient intranet that helps employees of Edge Verve to collaborate with one another on more social and engaging platform.
Process

User Research - Contextual inquiry
Conducted a contextual inquiry at Edge Verve Bangalore campus. The interviews covered employees interaction with the system to understand product opportunity, product reaction and user behaviour. Based on inputs from 15 employees, we were able to draw personas, which helped us to understand the employees’ current usage pattern, goals, needs and pain points in the current WebApp.
Some of the points which we covered were:
- their work-life balance
- app and internet usage
- their expectations from the app during the usage of the product
- how the product is currently perceived
- the current problems they are facing

Some of the points which they mentioned were:
- Most of the people are only aware of EV app and not the EV portal.
- Look and feel of the app is not creating any interest to visit the app
- There are already lots of portals like yammer, splash etc.,
- No classification of information
- Lot of features are hidden
- “We would like to have stress busters like mini games, official updates, upcoming events can be put up too.
- Connection to the mail box and a chat feature would be useful
- Integration of all EV portals under one roof
- “Not able to personalise my own profile!”
Personas
Plan - Proposed Features
- Able to follow tech leaders/senior managers of the organisation to know their insights/read their blogs
- Educational/Webinars Event posting
- Job postings in other DC's
- Personalisation of the news feed depending on the user interests
- Integration of portals to know attendance and other important information in the same portal
- Communities can be created based on similar interests
- Stress-busters/mini games
Plan - User flows

Plan - Information Architecture

Aligning inputs from employees and business goals, there is a need for change in communication structure to keep the portal interactive and personalised.
Hence in the new portal, users can customise their profile, update information and create communities of their interests; thus enabling a peer-peer channel.
The look and feel of the portal was finalised through building stylescapes to define the visual language and style; aligning with the brand guidelines of Infosys.
Build - Wireframes

Build - UI Stylescape

Build - Visual Mockups

Conclusion
Challenges
- Interacting with the senior management was difficult, since they did not have time for contextual inquiry
- Time frame was very rigid
- Development team was not in-house and the interaction was only with the project manger at the client side
- Design language had to follow the brand guidelines
Learnings
- Prioritising the features according to the most required feature to the user and the time required to develop the same
- Since the time allotted was very less, we had to do rapid prototyping with paper sketches
- Documenting the sketches was also a very important part of the work
- Time management was very crucial and team work was necessary. There were 2 other UI designers in the project, but due to shortage of time and overload of work, we had divided it well and delivered the project within the deadlines

Ethnography Study
The research involves shadowing the users who are in the wholesale APMC market of Yeshwantpur, Bangalore. The objective of the research is to understand the process that takes place in the yard and integrate in the software system.
